Railways next generation of junior indoor hockey players made their tournament debut at the Portrane hosted Leinster u14 girls and boys indoor hockey championship.
The 2nd year girls played in Group A in the morning and with two wins, two losses and a final match draw they qualified through to finals day on goal difference with Old Alex topping the group. Siuin Woods the Minor’s lead coach took the 2nd year girls team.
The boys u14s were on in the afternoon under coach Shomik and they raced to four wins out of four until a top of the group head to head with Monkstown who came out on top 3-1 to qualify through in first position with Railway second and Corinthians in third.
Sunday 14 January will see Group B played out and both Railway teams will then play in Finals day on Sun 28 January.
In 2023 Railway u14 girls won the Leinster Hockey Portrane Cup with the u14 Boys runners up losing narrowly in the final with the u16 girls runners up and last year Railway boys u16s winning their Leinster title at Boyne HC in what was the most successful junior indoor year at Railway.
With Railway assisting in setting up two new indoor venues locally and Kenny Carroll leading out weekly indoor coaching for our boys u14s and u16s since September the future for junior indoor hockey at Railway is on an upward trajectory.
Railway Womens 1s defeated Old Alex and then Pembroke womens 1sts indoor 12-0 so a good day for the club indoor programme !
A massive thanks to Mark Harris, Adrian Henchy and the Portrane HC organising committee for all their work this year and the club who started the junior indoor hockey interest many years ago at u14 level, joined by Boyne HC (u16 & u18 tournaments) and their great work and Railway are exploring possibility of starting an u12 indoor tournament towards the end of the year to get even younger players exposed to indoor hockey.
thanks for Siuin & Shomik and all the parents for their support as always in driving to and from the training sessions and matches !
