Railway win the U14 Boys Cup Final on St. Patrick's Day

The well attended final was played on the back pitch at Three Rock Rovers as part of the Leinster Hockey Association Finals Day.

Railway won the U14 Boys Cup Final on St. Patrick's Day. The well attended final was played on the back pitch at Three Rock Rovers as part of the Leinster Hockey Association Finals Day.

Despite having a number of short corners and chances to score from open play, the game remained scoreless at half time.

Railway scored the first goal of the game, in the third quarter through a top corner finish from the captain Toby Slye O'Connell. Monkstown turned the game on it's head through two goals of their own to leave Railway trailing 1-2 at three quarter time.

After some pressure early in the fourth quarter Bruce Whaley equalised with some very skilful play. railway then won a penalty stroke which Toby converted to make it 3-2 with six minutes remaining. Soon after he added a fourth for Railway with a back-hand finish. Railway stayed in control until the final whistle and the match finished Railway 4 - 2 Monkstown.
